Day 1: Chinchero – Maras – Moray – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes Connection
Departure from Cusco to Chinchero: We begin our journey early, departing from the city of Cusco toward the Sacred Valley. Our first stop is the picturesque town of Chinchero, where we will visit traditional textile workshops to learn about ancestral spinning, dyeing, and weaving techniques using natural fibers.
Exploration of Maras and Moray: We continue our trip to Maras to visit its world-famous salt mines, an impressive complex of thousands of artisanal salt pans active since Inca times. Very close by, we will explore the Moray archaeological site, a striking agricultural laboratory made up of several concentric circular terraces that replicate different experimental microclimates.
Buffet Lunch and Ollantaytambo Tour: We will stop to enjoy a delicious buffet lunch featuring local gastronomy. Afterward, we head to Ollantaytambo, one of the most vital archaeological sites in the Sacred Valley, considered an essential religious, military, and political center of the Inca Empire, famous for its beautifully preserved stone streets.
Train Ride to Aguas Calientes (In the Afternoon): After exploring Ollantaytambo, we will head to the train station to board the train to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo). During the rail journey, you will contemplate beautiful Andean landscapes transitioning into spectacular high jungle views.
