Waqrapukara<\/strong> is an Inca fortress built atop two imposing rock horns at 4,300 m.a.s.l.<\/strong>, in the province of Acomayo. Its name in Quechua means \"fortress with horns\"<\/em> and it is one of the lesser-known but most impressive archaeological sites in Cusco, surrounded by deep canyons, waterfalls and wild nature that make this trek a unique adventure.<\/p>

ITINERARY:<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>

  • Transportation will pick you up between 5:00am and 5:30am from downtown Cusco.<\/li>
  • We travel approximately 3 hours toward the community of Pomacanchi or Sangarar\u00e1 (Acomayo province), with views of high Andean lagoons and traditional villages along the way. We make a brief stop for breakfast.<\/li>
  • We begin the trek of approximately 8 km one way, descending toward the Apur\u00edmac river canyon and then ascending among waterfalls and wild vegetation until reaching the base of the rocky horns. The guide will explain the history and architecture of the Inca citadel during the route.<\/li>
  • Free time at the summit to explore the ceremonial enclosures, terraces and platforms with panoramic views of the canyon. Box lunch in the area.<\/li>
